Steven
Higginson
Steven's painting and drawing
deal with the figure, urban landscape and still life. His work is influenced by
a line of realists such as Caravaggio, Velazquez, Manet, Hopper, and
contemporaries such as Andrew Wyeth and Bo Bartlett. His work however, carries
on this tradition in a contemporary way by capturing aspects of modern life
around him.
He always use a visual narrative within his work. This helps to connect the
viewer and involve them with his painting. This narrative sometimes evolves with
surrealistic qualities and this only develops within the actual painting process
itself.
Steven Graduated with BA (hons) in Fine Art (Painting and Drawing) from Duncan
of Jordanstone School of Art, Dundee in 2004 and was awarded the Aiden Threlfall
Travelling Scholarship from the Goldsmiths Company, London which he spent in
Paris, Madrid, Venice and Rome viewing works by the old masters.
Since 2004 Steven has exhibited in many galleries throughout Scotland, such as
Gallery Heinzel, The White Gallery, Art Exposure, Compass Gallery, Leith Gallery
and many more. Steven recently had a solo show in the Jam Gallery, Dundee.
