Skelpaig are an energetic trio of musicians from across the Highland and Islands who have been delighting audiences since spring 2006 with their blend of swirling melodies and high-energy harmonies. Their sound is inspired by folk music from around Europe and includes a number of their own compositions. They have played the length and breadth of Scotland including the Orkney Folk Festival, Hebridean Celtic Festival and Celtic Connections and have just released their debut album.

On fiddle is Katherine Liley from Claigan on the Isle of Skye. A remarkable talent for composing complements her rhythmic style of fiddling and technical ability. She has played with various bands throughout Scotland but is now dedicating her time to Skelpaig.

Piper and whistler David Adam is from Inverness. He also plays with the well-known samba fusion band MacUmba but enjoys the intimacy and musical freedom of Skelpaig. His love of the dance music of the pipes was inspired by many visits to South Uist, his mother’s birthplace.

Guitarist David Sutherland was born and brought up in Lochaber and was fortunate enough to be taught by Angus Grant and Jim Hunter through the local feisean. He has played with a number of folk bands including Cluanas and is an intricate melody player and skilled accompanist with a subtle but driving sound.
