In his days as a student, Robin Clarke realised that he could not afford musical instruments and to buy beer, so he had to learn to make at least one of them! His first attempts at brewing were ‘terrible’ so he turned to instrument making instead. He began with the idea that for hundreds of years people had been making excellent instruments with the simplest of tools. He has since gone on to make many different types of fine-sounding instrument. All his instruments, from basic whistles to intricate hurdy-gurdies, have been produced on the kitchen table without any specialist tools and from recycled or cheap materials.

About the workshop

Back by popular demand, Robin’s all-day workshop will enable you to make your own durable and highly-playable low whistle or tabor pipe. All materials will be provided. Only very basic woodworking skills are necessary.
