'Expands the annals of Irish music in America...the music is passionate, tender and rambunctious'
The New York Times
'They are now among the busiest, best, and most popular Irish music groups in the world' Boston Globe
Cherish The Ladies are literally the most successful and sought-after Irish-American group in Celtic music history. The group initially won recognition as the first and only all-women traditional Irish band, but they soon established themselves as musicians and performers of exceptional calibre, winning many thousands of listeners and fans.
Although the line-up has changed over the years, two of the original members remain - band leader Joanie Madden, the Grammy Award-winning whistle and flute player, and Mary Coogan, who plays guitar, banjo and mandolin. Both musicians are first-generation Irish from the New York area. The other members of the band - Mirella Murray (piano accordion), Roisin Dillon (fiddle and tin whistle), Heidi Talbot (vocals and bodhran) and Kathleen Boyle (piano) - are from Ireland.
Each member of the group is a musician of considerable talent. Put them all together and you have a formidable line-up of virtuosi instrumental talent, beautiful vocals and captivating arrangements put together in a humorous and entertaining package. A highlight of their show is always the appearance of champion Irish step dancers.
The group has played all over the world, sharing the stage with entertainers like James Taylor, Joan Baez and The Chieftains and has received numerous prestigious accolades. On St Patrick’s Day 2005, they were invited to perform at The White House.
