The Carnoustie and District Youth Band is made up of young people aged 19 and under and is drawn from the young members of the Arbroath Instrumental Band, its associated Youth Band and Angus Schools’ Wind Band.

Most of the young people are pupils of Michael Robertson, the brass instructor in Carnoustie and Monifieth and the resident conductor of the band, and Paul Judge, the percussion instructor in Angus. Members of the band are drawn from the county of Angus.

The band was born out of a highly successful and enjoyable brass-band course organised by Angus Council and held in Carnoustie, which involved the world-renowned conductor Richard Evans. The band has gone from strength to strength and the young people regularly perform in and around Angus at fetes, gala days, concerts and church/remembrance services, while most of them take part in the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) courses held every summer.

Eleven members of the band are fortunate enough this year to go to Japan in July for the NYBBS tour under their conductor Richard Evans while the whole band achieved fourth position in the National Youth Brass Band Championships.
