Bruce
Walker
Bruce Walker was born in Aberdeenshire in 1946. While serving a four-year apprenticeship as a stone carver in Aberdeen he attended Aberdeen Technical College and Grey’s School of Art, studying drawing, lettering and stone carving. At this time he developed an interest in glass engraving as an extension to his stone-working skills.
In 1975 he set up his own business carving stone and hand-engraving quality glassware at his studio in Kirkbuddo, Angus. He moved his studio to the craft units in Cumberland Close, Kirriemuir in 1997.
Bruce has been engraving glass for 40 years and has pieces in private collections in most of Britain and in many foreign countries. He specialises in wildlife and buildings but can engrave anything to order.
He also has 45 years’ experience of carving stone. Training as a carver of granite has enabled him to carve any stone and he works not only with granite but also sandstone, slate, marble, limestone and soapstone. His works include many public pieces in Angus, including fountains, sun dials, coats of arms and statues, while his smaller sculptures are mainly in private collections. His favourite medium is abstract but any type of carving can be done to the customer’s requirements.
