Lauren MacColl, with Barry Reid

Fiddler Lauren MacColl was crowned BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Musician of the Year in 2005 and followed this with a string of festival appearances across Britain, culminating in being awarded the prestigious Dewar Arts Award to record a debut album. In musical partnership with guitarist Barry Reid, the duo draw on traditional influences and repertoire from their rich cultural upbringing through the fèisean Gaelic-arts movement, along with a large slice of MacColl’s own compositions. See Lauren’s website at www.laurenmaccoll.co.uk.

O’Carolan

O’Carolan’s members include some of the best traditional and folk musicians to be found in the Spanish region of Aragón, highly skilled in the performance of Aragonese and Celtic music alike. The band itself specialises in the repertoire of the eighteenth-century Irish harper and composer Turlough O’Carolan, performed on a wide variety of instruments including harp, whistles, guitar, fiddle and bagpipes. The group has been playing in Spain and other parts of Europe for more than 20 years and has recorded two albums to date, with a third scheduled for the end of 2007. www.ocarolanfolk.com
